As requested from Numbus, here is an IRC guide I wrote sometime ago and that can certainly help peoples.
1. Download an IRC client.
I personally use mIRC and the rest of the guide will focus on it.
Once you have it just install, and launch it. It will tell you that it's not free.
Use the following serial code to register:
User: Freeware
Code: 6054-651420
[Edited by Zabadab; mscracks.net makes virus scanners go crazy.]
2. Configure it.
The first time you launch mIRC, it will prompt you for:Give him that and than click in the left part of the Options window on Connect->Option->Reconnect on disconnection.
- your name
- your email address
- your nick
- your 2nd nick
Than go to the DCC tab and check Auto-get file and check minimize. Under "If file exists:" put Resume.
Under DCC->Options uncheck Show warning (except if you like to be pissed off).
Under DCC->Ignore uncheck Turn ignore back on.
Under DCC->Server you can check everything except Perform DNS lookup.
And click on OK, you don't want to redo everything, don't you?
With this configuration mIRC will download everything that is send to you.
Close the mIRC Options window (this can be brought back by clicking on the folder with a hammer icon or the alt+o shortcut),
you are now finally ready to download.
3. Download.
You first need to access a server. Type this in the lower part of the Status window:
/server irc.rizon.net or /s irc.rizon.net for short.
If you plan on returning a lot to rizon why not save him? Normally he is already listed but if it's not the case do it like this:
In the mIRC Options window go to Connect->Servers and click Add and enter the following in the fields:and click Add. Now you can connect to Rizon by selecting it in the IRC Server list and clicking Connect to Server.
- Description: Rizon (or Great provider of anime or whatever you want to call him)
- IRC Server: irc.rizon.net
- leave the Port(s) field with the default value 6667
You will log to the rizon server. There is a lot of different channel on rizon, a lot are the IRC channels of fansub teams.
But what we are looking for is hentai. Type doujin-world in the mIRC favourite window that just pop up, or type this in the Status window:
/join doujin-world. (The mIRC favourite window can be brought back by clicking on the icon with a #+ folder)
Either of this two action will make you join the channel of doujin-world a scanlation team specialized in doujin translation.
3.a XDCC bots
They have different bots serving their releases. To know what they serve locate their XDCC bot in the right part of the channel window. Their name begin with +[D-W].
Found one? Good, type this:
/msg [name of the bot] xdcc list
for example if you want to download from the [D-W]Banzai bot type:
/msg [D-W]Banzai xdcc list
Bots respond differently. Some show what they have, directly in the chan, some give an url, where you can see what they have.
You should get something that look like this:
The command to download from this bot is :** Doujin-World Releases!! **
** 36 packs ** 2 of 20 slots open, Max: 600.0KB/s, Record: 3171.2KB/s
** Bandwidth Usage ** Current: 650.1KB/s, Record: 2161.3KB/s
** To request a file, type "/msg [D-W]Banzai xdcc send #x" **
** To request details, type "/msg [D-W]Banzai xdcc info #x" **
#1 2588x [ 3K] PacklistBanzai.txt
#2 473x [ 18M] [D-W] Ichigo100% - Mousou Chuuihou [English]
#3 2360x [ 25M] [D-W] Tsukuyomi Moon Phase - Hazuki-tan to Ecchi [English]
#4 3049x [1.9M] [D-W] Neon Genesis Evangelion - Ayanami Rei 5 [English]
#5 2407x [ 43M] [D-W] Resident Evil - Jill Valentine [English]
#6 2565x [ 21M] [D-W] Disgaea - Makai Ojou [English]
/msg [D-W]Banzai xdcc send #x
But what is this x at the end? In front of each release, there is a number and you must replace the x with the number of the release you want to download.
Say we want to grab [D-W] Disgaea - Makai Ojou [English]. So the command we will past in the channel will be:
/msg [D-W]Banzai xdcc send #6
Your request will be queued and the download will start any minute.
Now you are able to download from an XDCC bot, but there is other methods to serve files on IRC.
3.b Fserve
One of them are Fserve. Remember the right part of the channel window where there is a hugh list of nicknames?
Some have a @ before their nick (don't piss them off you will surely get kicked and/or banned), and other have a + before it.
Those one are the name of the guys that are serving. To know how to contact them type this in the channel windows:
!list
Whoaaa the channel is now full of colored text. Here is an example:
What we are looking for are triggers. They all beginning with /ctcp. And more importantly we are looking for hentai remember?-Genmu- File Server Online [Triggers]: /ctcp Genmu *Hentai & /ctcp Genmu *Anime & /ctcp Genmu *Anime OST & /ctcp Genmu *PVs [Leeched]: 487gb in 2922 files [Fastest]: 71.4kb/s by tput [Sending]: 2/2 [Waiting]: 41/45 ‹‹UPP››
Great, the first trigger seems to be for us, so copy/past it in the channel window.
/ctcp Genmu *Hentai
This will open a new window with something like that in it:
This line show the commands available:DCC Chat session
-
Client: Genmu (64.231.201.31)
Time: Fri Jan 27 23:54:23 2006
-
Acknowledging chat request...
DCC Chat connection established
-
<Genmu> -=SysReset 2.53=- FileServer
<Genmu> NOTICE: If you leave this channel all sends, gets, and fservs will be stopped.
<Genmu> Commands: cd, clr_queue, clr_queues, dir, exit, get, help, ls, queues, quit, sends, stats, who
<Genmu> Transfer Status: Sends:[2/2] - Queues:[2/10]
<Genmu> This server will auto-close after 3mins.
<Genmu> mIRC v6.14 File Server
<Genmu> Use: cd dir ls get read help exit
<Genmu> [\]
<Genmu> Commands: cd, clr_queue, clr_queues, dir, exit, get, help, ls, queues, quit, sends, stats, who
Type dir to list what is the folder that this guy is sharing. Something like that will comme out
Type get futari_ecchi_v05_c41[oishii-manga].zip to download "futari_ecchi_v05_c41[oishii-manga].zip"<Genmu> [\*.*]
<Genmu> DOUJIN-WORLD RELEASES
<Genmu> STUFF
<Genmu> YAKITATE
<Genmu> futari_ecchi_v05_c41[oishii-manga].zip 4.01 mb
<Genmu> mahou_sensei_negima_c122[aqs].rar 8.30 mb
<Genmu> suzuka_v11_c92[sos].zip 2.80 mb
<Genmu> thumbs.db 9.00 kb
<Genmu> End of list
If this doesn't interest you (man, you don't know what's good), you can go in the DOUJIN-WORLD RELEASES folder (folder are in capitals) with this command:
cd DOUJIN-WORLD RELEASES
and than type dir to list what's in it.
And finally get [the name of what you want to download].
To close the current folder and go up one level in the tree, type :
cd ..
I think that is all there is to know. The other useful command are:Well, if you have read everything, you are now able to download from IRC.
- dir (to list what there is in the folder you are in)
- cd (to go in a folder)
- get (to download a file)
- help (to see the help the other command)
- queues (to list the persons waiting in the queue)
- sends (to list the persons currently downloading) and
- exit (to close the chat window)
Feel free to ask questions in this thread if you have problems.
And remember, "Knowledge is power and power give you hentai".
4. How to find good channels.
Here is some tips to find what you want.
4.a Web IRC search engine
There is some site that are like google but for IRC channels. Here are two:
http://irc.netsplit.de/channels/search.php
http://searchirc.com/
They will give you the channel name and the name of the server.
4.b Listing channels in mIRC
You can also directly search in mIRC. Click on the List Channel icon (something like an earth with a page and a # in front) or use the Alt+L shortcut.
This will open a window where you can specifyAnd you will have a list of channels hosted by rizon, having the word hentai in their name.
- the server to scan (for the example Rizon), and
- what word you are looking for (hmm, let me guess... hentai, right?)
4.c @find
When you are in a channel, it's tiresome to !list all Fserve and going in every one of them to check if they have something you want.
You can use the command @find in the channel, to ask the Fserves if they have it. For example if you want Naruto's doujin type:
@find naruto
But be aware that some channels don't want this command to be used and will kick/ban you if you do. To know if it is allowed, it's a good idea to check the topic of the channel (it's the first lines of text appearing when you connect to the channel).
Or you can also read their rules by going to their website or type !rule or !rules in the chan (those commands are more probably listed in the topic).
